Mayhem on the Mountain 10K Trail Race / Vert Challenge - Presented by RunPA, bEAST Coast Runners

RunPA & Every Mountain Outdoors along with our partner bEAST Coast Runners is proud to present Mayhem on the Mountain and Vert Challenge.
Two different events happening at the same time. Choose your poison:

MAYHEM ON THE MOUNTAIN 10K TRAIL RACE
will have you running through the base of the mountain as a warmup before you climb up on the side via an old never used slope. What goes up must come down....as you some back down a PowderHorn to Drummer Boy and then we send you back up Fanny Hill and back around the mountain where you will eventually reach the summit of Roundtop with sweeping views all around. But don't hang out too long at the top!!! It's a RACE!!! Sail down Upper Ramrod to Lower Gunbarrel and then across the base to the finish!!!!

VERT CHALLENGE
We are looking for the King and Queen of the mountain. Challenge yourself by seeing how much vert you can gain running up and down Minuteman - it may be a blue trail but you'll be feeling black diamonds in your quads and legs as you see what your made of while collecting big gains in elevation during this 3 hour challenge. Set up base camp where you can take a break and refuel. Once your done ring out on the bell and we will tally your attempt and see who comes out on top! A true test of mind over body!!!! Bring your friends and lets party!!!

BOTH EVENTS are chipped timed and counting hill climbs.

Eastern States 100 - RunPA Mobile Swag Shop

Come out for the Eastern States 100

The RunPA Mobile Swag Shop will be in full effect for the entire weekend at Eastern States! Stop on by say hello , toss some corn hole, hang out and support such a great PA Brand and small business!!!

Eastern States

Eastern States is a 103-mile single-loop trail race (98% single/double-track) in the Wilds region of the Allegheny Plateau in north-central Pennsylvania.  The race circumnavigates a portion of the stunning Pine Creek watershed that includes some of our longest climbs and most technical and remote terrain.  It visits storied trails like the Mid State Trail and the Black Forest Trail, and accumulates over 20,000 feet of climbing in the process โ€” all in the glorious heat and humidity of August.  This is graduate-level trail running that will both test and fulfill you in so many ways.

Eastern States 100 Details:

RACE INFORMATION HERE: https://easternstates100.com/

Eastern States 100 is 103 rocky miles with +20,000ft of elevation gain and a finisher rate of about 49 percent. Welcome to Pennsylvania!

Only the hardiest of runners will complete this circumnavigation of Pine Creek. A Pennsylvania Scenic River. The largest creek in the United States. The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. The river route that supplied the lumber that built America. The Iroquois called it Tiadaghton โ€“ the River of Pines. Or is it the Lost or Bewildered River? After 100 miles of multiple 900 โ€“ 1200 foot climbs and equally punishing descents, the second definition will seem appropriate.

Runners will experience portions of some of the most scenic and most challenging trails in Pennsylvania. The Mid State Trail โ€“ Pennsylvaniaโ€™s wildest footpath. The Black Forest Trail โ€“ the crown jewel of Pennsylvaniaโ€™s long distance hiking trails featuring hills, rocks, and on average, a vista for every mile of trail. The West Rim Trail โ€“ a backpackerโ€™s favorite for experiencing the Pine Creek Gorge. The Donut Hole Trail, the T Squared Trail, the Long Branch Trail, the Tiadaghton Trail, and several shorter connector trails will round out the 100 mile loop.

Ramsey at the south end is nothing more than a collection of houses and seasonal residences. You will cross Pine Creek on a former railroad trestle before climbing to the panoramic Ramsey Bend Vista. The north end is Blackwell. A tiny village with the historic Blackwell Hotel restaurant/bar and a small convenience and gift store. You will cross a unique one lane steel grate bridge that bends in the middle prior to climbing Gillespie Point - The Matterhorn of the Alleghenies - the only true peak in Pennsylvania.

In between is miles of hills, rocky hollows, diverse forest and endless views. Wolf Path, Cougar Run, Hemlock Mountain, Jerry Run Falls, Panther Run, and the Algerine Wild Area are just some of the local trails you'll traverse. The course is full of single track, old logging roads and abandoned stone quarries. Deer, bear, bald eagles, and rattlesnakes may be seen. Other than the well-stocked aid stations we will provide, the only civilization centers you will pass through are Ramsey, Blackwell, Hyner Run State Park and Slate Run โ€“ a tiny village featuring the Hotel Manor and Wolfeโ€™s General Store.

The Eastern States 100. A race for the ages!

10K Course Description

The 10k course is a loop that begins and ends at the Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, just outside of Waterville, PA. The course will begin near the office building and descend to State Route PA- 44 at the entrance to the office (intersection of Lower Pine Bottom Road and PA- 44). From here runners will take a right and proceed along PA- 44 to the Waterville Recreational Access for the Pine Creek Rail Trail, where runners will pick up the Old Wagon Road. The Old Wagon Road was the original road used to travel along Pine Creekโ€™s corridor (when riding horses and horse- pulled wagons was still the hippest way to travel. The Wagon Road is now a shared use trail that was re-established for trail users by the Jersey Shore Outdoor Club and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR ). The course then proceeds along the Old Wagon Road with views of Pine Creek to the left and the steep hillside of Huntley Mountain to your right. This trail is gently rolling, but it has numerous softball - sized rocks making the trail slightly more technical than you might otherwise expect. Shale outcrops dot the hillside along with old grades that were used to access timber and rock quarries in the late nineteenth century. After about 1.6 miles, runners will take a right and ascend the Gleason Trail. The Gleason Trail is about .75 miles from bottom to top, and it is an unrelenting ascent. The trail is rocky, narrow, and steep. Be thankful that youโ€™re ascending this bugger. Shortly after turning onto the Gleason Trail, be sure to look to your left to view the remnants of the large stone quarry across the stream. Then, follow the red blazes to the top of Huntley Mountain, where the Gleason Trail joins the Tiadaghton Trail. Turn right on the Tiadaghton Trail. The Tiadaghton Trail on Huntley Mountain provides easy running for a while, and the leafless trees in November will provide great views across the valley along its corridor. The Tiadaghton Trail was originally constructed by the Boy Scouts of America in the mid- twentieth century. Scouts working out of Camp Kline maintained a trail loop that allowed scouts to hike from the camp (Bonnell Flats) to Little Pine State Park and back, using the current Tiadaghton Trail and what later became the Mid State Trail (and parts of the Houselander Trail). After years of being abandoned, numerous volunteers and volunteer organizations (including the Jersey Shore Outdoor Club) in cooperation DCNR reconstructed the trail. Continue along the yellow blazed trail and descend from the top of Huntley along the old fire tower road, before veering onto single track to return to the Pine Creek Rail Trail parking lot in Waterville. Once youโ€™ve returned to the Old Wagon Road, take a left and continue back to PA- 44 via the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Take a right on PA - 44 and follow PA - 44 back to the Tiadaghton Resource Management Center.

Half Course Description

The half marathon course is a loop that begins and ends at the Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, just outside of Waterville, PA. Participants running the Half Marathon course will follow the same route as the 10k runners (see course description above), but will branch off upon the return to Lower Pine Bottom Road and continue their journey back onto the Tiadaghton Trail, towards Ramsey. From there, they will ascend the newly introduced Eiger Trail, alias โ€œThe Quadfather ''. The name Eiger pays homage to the Eiger Mountain of the Bernese Alps, while the unofficially dubbed โ€œQuadfather'' should indicate where the strain of the 1,000ft climb will feel most localized. Eiger was the third leg of a three phase project by DCNR that utilized old quarry grades into recreational trails. At the summit of Eiger, racers will be rewarded with a view of the pulchritudinous Bull Run Vista, but shouldnโ€™t dally for too long! There is still quite a stretch ahead. Proceeding, runners will link up with the Log Slide Trail. As the name implies, this trail was revitalized from old logging grades from the turn of the century. Imagine how steep a grade must be to be able to slide a log down the 1 mile face of a mountain, then you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect descending this trail. Upon reaching the bottom, runners will backtrack onto Lower Pine Bottom, hanging a left, and follow the gravel road roughly one mile before reaching the final climbโ€ฆ the Wolf Path. There will be one small stream crossing leading up to the ascent of Wolf Path. There is nothing gradual about this trail; racers will feel the brunt of this 800ft climb almost immediately. Halfway through, the trail will conjoin with a dried stream bed, perhaps one of the more technical sections of the course. Upon summiting, runners will link up with Middle Hill Road and follow the Middle Hill Trail back to the DCNR building. Similar to the descent off Tiadaghton, Middle Hill is a screaming and unrestrained series of sharp twists and turns that will have you throwing your hands in the air and smiling your way to the finish.

Proceeds

About The Tiadaghton Trail - In Memory of Jason Bartges and Kasey Kemmerer

The Jersey Shore High School Outdoor Club in 2009 took on the project of re-opening a hiking trail in the Tiadaghton Forest. The club decided in that year to dedicate work on the trail to two former members of the Outdoor Club who tragically passed away in the summer of 2009. The Tiadaghton Trail had not been officially mapped or declared a viable trail since 1973. The possibility of re-opening the Tiadaghton Trail would provide one of the very few looped trails in North Central PA. The trail is approximately a 25 mile loop and goes from Ramsey Village to Little Pine State Park using both sides of the creek, and providing beautiful vistas and challenging terrain.. All proceeds from this trail race will benefit the Kasey Jack Kemmerer Memorial Scholarship Fund that selects at least one graduating senior from Jersey Shore Area High School to receive a financial scholarship each year.

The York Road Runners Club, established in 1976, proudly manages, organizes, and directs the York White Rose Run. This race is put on by runners for runners and is geared to participants of all abilities and experience levels.  It has much to offer, from a special course that runs through York City, to a great tech shirt for those who choose to purchase it, to a post-race party complete with great food, beer, and a band.

Information for 2021, the 44th Running

This yearโ€™s race includes both a LIVE and a VIRTUAL race. Runners around the world have embraced VIRTUAL racing, and we will include this option again in 2021! You can register for the LIVE, or the VIRTUAL, or register for each of the events (**you must register separately for each event if you wish to do both**).

The LIVE race runs through the city for more than three miles (including Farquhar Park), crosses George St onto the new section of the Heritage Rail Trail, runs less than a mile to the turnaround, and finishes at the usual spot on Beaver St.  The race start and venue will remain at the White Rose Bar and Grill.

Any COVID-19 precautions for our LIVE race and post-race events will be according to Pennsylvania state requirements. ** Click/tap on York 5 Mile LIVE Race for details. **

The VIRTUAL race is anywhere/anytime between September 1 and September 26, 2021.  You can run any version of the White Rose Run, or you can run anywhere/anytime.

You can be a VOLUNTEER.  With the race running through the city, we need many volunteers, who will receive a race t-shirt exactly like the runnersโ€™ shirts, along with a good feeling that you are helping a good cause.  Most positions allow for easy social distancing and all COVID-19 precautions.  All volunteers must register at runsignup.com/yorkwhiteroserun !

Community Focused

The York White Rose Run is proud to support the York Chapter of Not One More, Inc. โ€“ a nonprofit organization that was formed in 2015 for the purpose of providing awareness, education and support to those affected by drug abuse and addiction.

When you register for the race or to volunteer, please consider supporting our race beneficiary.  Every penny you donate will go directly to the York Chapter of Not One More, Inc.  Even if you wonโ€™t be running or volunteering for White Rose Run, you may donate on runsignup.

Prizes and Cash Awards

Prize Money:  Top five male and female finishers will receive $250, $200, $150, $100, & $50, respectively.

Masters Awards:   The top male and female finishers forty and over will receive $75; the second will receive $50.  If a master winner is in the top 5 overall, he/she wins both cash awards.

Age Group Cap Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group.

Additional Race Amenities

Chip Timing by US Road Running:  Precise and immediate timing results

Extra Fun:

  • Race start by the York Revolutionโ€™s Cannonball Charlie.

  • York Revolutionโ€™s mascot, Downtown, will be there to greet you at the finish line.

  • Our favorite bagpiper, Rodney Yeaple, will be in his usual spot โ€“ at the top of Farquhar Park.

Packet Pickup will be hosted at the White Rose Bar and Grill, dates and times to be announced.  There will be a post-race awards ceremony and the White Rose Bar and Grill will provide sandwiches and a beer/drink to each participant.  If you win an age group award you may pick up your award cap at a designated table.  Masks must be worn at the venue, except briefly while you are eating or drinking.

Viking Grind 4X4X48 Challenge 2021
Aug
13
to Aug 15

Viking Grind 4X4X48 Challenge 2021

The inaugural Viking Grind 4x4x48 Challenge was the brainchild of NL Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach Neil Wolfe. Coach Wolfe likes a challenge and so instead of just going through this grind by himself, he thought it may be a good idea to involve and help others at the same time.

So here you are. You like a challenge as well. The Viking Grind 4x4x48 is that challenge. Complete 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 straight hours. Complete all the miles yourself or add some teammates to join you or share the miles with.

This event will be held at Northern Lebanon High School starting on August 13th at 9:00 a.m. and ending on August 15th at 9:00 a.m. Cost for registration is $75 per participant 16 years of age & older. Participants under 16 will just be asked for a race-day donation.

Included with the registration fee will be a participant t-shirt, water, and some snacks. 100% of the profit from this event will be donated to the JOY Pantry and the Northern Lebanon Mini-Thon.

On the grounds during the event, we will have food trucks, entertainment, first aid, restrooms, and more to come.

For those that live out of the area, there will be areas on the grounds to set up a tent. There are also local campgrounds nearby. Compete against yourself or with a team to run, walk, or crawl 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours.

**All proceeds from registration and donations will benefit NL Mini-Thon and Joy Outreach Pantry.**

Mark your calendars!! Registration is open NOW!!
